Established in 1972 Traphill Fire Department operates out of one main station and two sub stations. Traphill Fire Department was formed by a group of members in the community who saw the need for a fire department due to the rise in fires in the area. The members would come together to host cake walks and square dances to purchase the first fire engine as well as firefighting equipment.  Traphill Fire Department protects over 2500 people and has an annual call volume of around 200 calls per year. Traphill Fire Department also covers 14,000 acre Stone Mountain State Park as well as areas of the Blue Ridge Parkway Escarpment near the Basin Creek access.
